Karnataka Government Launches Rural WiFi Service For Village Entrepreneurs

Digital India has taken crucial steps, State governments are taking necessary steps towards the internet facility in rural areas. One such instance from Karnataka government.


Karnataka government launched rural WiFi service, which includes 11 gram panchayats. With the launch, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said this initiative will give village-level entrepreneurs ready to access to the online marketplace for their products and services i.e basically to run an online business.

At the inauguration of Bengaluru ITE Biz 2016, Siddaramaiah said;

Digital inclusion becoming the most important parameter of growth and economic development. It is the intention of the government to see that the last mile connectivity is provided in all villages. For this we will be banking on the availability of National Optic Fibre Network up to the Gram Panchayat level.

The gram panchayats benefitting from this initiative include two each district of Mysuru, Tumkuru, Gadag, Ballari and Kalburgi and one district from Bagalkot.

So to access the WiFi service provided by the government, you need to buy concessional WiFi Service vouchers. This, in turn, will enable village-level entrepreneurs ready access to the online marketplace and have an opportunity to explore new markets for their products and services.

Karnataka government is contemplating setting up centers of excellence in aerospace,cyber security, and other emerging technologies to provide high-end skill in the people. The government has been augmenting industrial infrastructure in two tier and three tier cities.

Other than that the state also supports setting up of technology business incubators in the potential areas of IoT, Electronics System Design and manufacturing, Robotics, 3D Printing, Nanotechnology, Medical devices, Health technology and Clean technology.
