After nine months of existence, Google is shutting down its group sharing app on April 17. The app comes with Google Search, YouTube and Chrome inbuilt which allowed groups to share around any topic such as finding and sharing articles, videos and images without leaving the app.
Spaces was launched last May, Google pushed Spaces at I/O last year, yes the same year where Allo and Duo were announced. It was a group sharing app where you can invite people to join. And after April 17, users can only see, save, print and delete their content. Spaces seemed doomed from the start and now, it’s going down.
Google says shutting down Spaces was a “tough decision”. The app will alert you of the shutdown when you open it so that you can finish your conversations, you can also delete any spaces that have been created, leave any spaces that have been joined, and remove people from your spaces. You won’t be able to add anything new to the app from March 3rd.
