After much of a rumor, Qualcomm introduced its next-gen fingerprint scanning solution at MWC 2017 Shanghai, Vivo has announced it’s Under Display Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanning technology dubbed as Vivo Under Display, that offers under-display fingerprint scanning.

Under Display Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanning
This technology can be used, under the screen, behind the metal shell or even in the frame. Vivo Under Display Fingerprint unlocking technology is apparently based on Qualcomm Fingerprint Sensors.
This technology uses piezoelectric effect to produce and receives ultrasonic signals that pass through the OLED (that is 1.2mm thick) screen, producing different reflection strengths at the fingerprint ridges and valleys and generating fingerprint image for unlocking your device.
So, this technology can help avoid a physical button for the fingerprint sensor, apparently allowing a true full-screen display or in other words bezel-less display, an integrated unibody, and mechanical waterproofing design.

Vivo Under Display has tremendous advantages in terms of waterproofing and anti-ambient light. The fingerprint recognition technology can be further expanded to realize user interaction, such as gesture recognition, security verification and other fields, which will greatly enhance user experience.
