YouTube Music Is Here

YouTube Music will launch on May 22, with that, it puts music tracks and YouTube’s huge collections of music-related videos all in one app. So, you don’t have to have to hop between YouTube and Play Music or any other music streaming service.

YouTube Music

YouTube Music is available as a free, ad-supported tier, as well as a paid or premium tier. The free tier certainly lacks few features and is more or less a shot against Spotify’s free service. While the premium tier comes at a price of $9.99 a month, in which you will get an ad-free playback, offline downloads and background playback (of course).

YouTube Music will launch in the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and South Korea at first. Later, will roll out in: Austria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the U.K. Do note, India is missing in the list.

YouTube Red Is Now YouTube Premium

YouTube Red has been launched a while ago with features like ad-free playback, background functionality, offline downloads across YouTube, access to YouTube original content and Play Music streaming. The Red subscription will not restrict music-related content like YouTube Music does.

The search giant revealed that as part of Google’s “this time we mean it” approach, YouTube Red would now be rebranded as YouTube Premium. So, the renamed service will now include YouTube Music with an increase in price from $9.99 to $11.99 a month. Notably, the current YouTube Red members won’t be affected by the price hike.

What Happens To Play Music?

Google Play Music is still a thing. Google (like always) tried to tie the subscribers without affecting them. So, Google Play Music subscribers will get YouTube Music as a part of their existing subscription. Google has also assured that your Play Music uploads, purchases and playlists won’t be affected.

Now comes the real question, whether Google Play Music will be discontinued? well, the move to offer YouTube Music to the existing subscriber clearly indicates what’s the company planning next. In fact, Recode reported that Google Play Music will “eventually” be replaced by YouTube Music.
