Samsung Introduces 8TB SSD In Next-generation ‘NF1’ Form Factor!

SSD

Samsung is a well-known brand not only for its flagship smartphone offerings but also their capable and fast storage solutions. Well, Samsung has introduced highest capacity 8TB NVMe solid state drive (SSD). These SSD’s are based on the remarkably small next-generation Small Form Factor (NGSFF) / NF1 SSD. So here’s everything you need to know about this 8TB SSD.

The new Samsung SSD is built with 16 of Samsung’s 512GB NAND packages. Well, each of these packages is stacked in 16 layers of 256GB 3-bit V-NAND chips. Hence, achieving an 8TB density in an ultra-small footprint. The dimensions of 11cm x 3.05cm are pretty impressive considering the storage capabilities.

The NF1 SSD features a high-performance controller that supports the NVMe 1.3 protocol and PCIe 4.0 interface. Consequently, these SSDs delivery extremely fast read and write speeds of around 3,100 MB/s and write speeds of 2,000MB/s. Furthermore, these SSDs also offers 12GB LPDDR4 DRAM for faster and more energy-efficient data processing.

These new SSD’s will definitely replace the existing popular 2.5-inch NVMe SSDs. Furthermore, they will enable up to three times the system density in existing server infrastructure. This will allow about 576TB of storage space in the latest 2U rack servers. So as to ensure long-term data reliability, the NF1 NVMe SSD has been designed with an endurance level of 1.3 drive write per day (DWPD). In simple words, this guarantees writing an entire 8TB of data 1.3 times a day for around three years.
