Apple Could Release Its First 5G iPhone In 2020; Report

The next generation of cellular network promises to bring faster download speeds to consumers. Along with the wireless carriers, the hardware manufacturers are also getting ready with their plans to take advantage of those faster networks. A report suggests that Apple will release its 5G phone in 2020.

Apple’s First 5G iPhone Could Hit In 2020

The FCC has already granted Apple approval to experiment with the 5G technology last year, laying down the road. In a report in Fast Company cites “a source with knowledge of Apple’s plans,” who says that the phone will be released in 2020.

The report also records that the company plans to use Intel’s 8161 5G modem chip, although there are still some technical issues laying around the chipset that need to be resolved. Well, Apple has also been reported to chatting with MediaTek to supply the chips as a “Plan B.”

Apple is currently using Intel chips for the modems in its 2018 models, but is reportedly not going to use the company’s Bluetooth and Wi-Fi chips for the 2020 model, as the company could be the “main volume driver” for its modem. As of now, we have no clear picture of how the things will get put together, all we can do is wait.
