Qualcomm, the mobile chipset maker, introduced the first commercial 5G mobile platform- Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform, which will power the majority of flagships in the coming year.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 855: The 5G Era Begins!
The Snapdragon 855 mobile platform is based on 7nm fabrication process and is the first commercial chipset to be compatible with multi-gigabit 5G networks (whenever it is available), thanks to the combination of the company’s own the Snapdragon X50 5G modem and the X24 LTE modem.
Well, the chip sports eight-cores, four of which are power-saving ones clocked at 1.78GHz, three performance cores clocked at 2.42GHz and another special performance core that can achieve a clock speed of 2.84GHz. Towards mobile gaming, Qualcomm has also optimized Adreno 640 GPU resource-intensive tasks such as playing Augmented Reality games.
The Snapdragon 855 comes with 4th-generation on-device AI engine (offers 3 times the AI performance compared to Snapdragon 835), true 4K HDR video capture, 3D Sonic Sensor, the world’s first commercial ultrasonic fingerprint solution.
Not just that, Qualcomm has also embedded the world’s first Computer Vision (CV) ISP to enable cutting-edge computational photography and video capture features. Well, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 will be available starting next year.
